OUR PROMISE

No matter how difficult it may be,
we never give up on delivering that one meal.

For the meal we want to deliver, we do everything we can.
When something is difficult to import, we make it ourselves. And to bring you items with short shelf lives that once felt out of reach, we keep building the systems we need for delivery and sales.
Even when it is hard. Even when it feels impossible.
Because we believe that is the only answer we have to offer.

OUR STORY

Where our history
meets your future
and tomorrow.

HISTORY OF WASO

WASO began as a lunch delivery service for offices.
The road has not always been easy, but we have always believed in the power of food to bring comfort, joy, and strength to those living far from home.
With the continued support of our customers, that belief has brought WASO to where it is today.

It all started with a single trolley

Driven by the desire to share Japanese food and culture with the world, we began in a small kitchen in London, delivering Japanese lunches to offices.

    Growing and expanding

Through media coverage, a sponsorship with professional tennis player Joe Salisbury, and other initiatives, WASO gradually began to expand its reach.

    A difficult decision

Thanks to our customers’ support, the business kept growing. But as we expanded our operations and team, financial pressure mounted, and in October 2019 we made the difficult decision to close the business.

    Starting again, differently

Just as founder Toshi was ready to begin again, the spread of COVID-19 changed the world around us. In response, WASO made a major shift toward delivering frozen meal boxes for households.

    2021-2023

    Rebuilding, step by step

After shifting to home delivery, WASO focused on building a stronger foundation. We expanded beyond meal boxes to include Japanese groceries, sashimi, vegetables, and more.

Toward the next stage of growth

As the business grew, we expanded our operations and began importing products ourselves. This allowed us to broaden our range and offer more niche products at more accessible prices.

Making the tastes we couldn’t deliver before

By using air freight, we are now able to deliver products with short shelf lives, such as wagashi. And when something is difficult to source, we build the capability to make it ourselves — from slicing thin-cut meat in-house to preparing freshly milled rice.

    TODAY

Crafting more with our own hands

We will keep growing our range and bringing more longed-for foods within reach. A future where you can eat what you want, wherever you are. WASO will keep moving toward it.

OUR GOAL & FUTURE

To bring the tastes people have longed for to as many people as possible, wherever they are in the world.
In the UK, we currently offer more than 3,000 products, and by 2026 we aim to grow that to 4,000, while expanding into even more niche items and continuing to strengthen our delivery network and services.
At the same time, we are taking on new challenges, including expanding in France and launching our Hong Kong store, while continuing to grow into new countries and new categories.
So that wherever you are in the world, you can enjoy the foods you long for. Because we believe those longed-for tastes can become the strength that carries you into tomorrow.
