Finding the taste of home

Hi, I’m Elaine from WASO. I was born and raised in Hong Kong, and in 2022 I made the move to the UK to begin a new chapter of my life. Leaving behind this true “food paradise,” I soon realised something profound — flavours are one of the most powerful ways to stay connected with home.

In those early days abroad, the hardest part wasn’t the weather or the language, but the sudden absence of those familiar tastes. Food is never just about filling our stomachs, it holds our emotions, our culture, and our fondest memories of home.

During this time, I came across WASO through a friend. Their vision “Giving you a taste of home, wherever you are” resonated deeply with me. Because I knew it wasn’t just a slogan, but a heartfelt understanding of what Hongkongers overseas long for most: the taste of home.

As someone also living far away from Hong Kong, I sincerely hope this platform can become a bridge for all of us, helping to solve the struggle of not finding authentic Hong Kong flavours after moving abroad. While the range of products may be limited at first, it will gradually grow and expand with more choices.

I hope that with every bite, we can reconnect with our stories, our culture, and our shared “taste of Hong Kong”.
