Pocari Sweat is one of Asia's most recognised electrolyte drinks, developed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical in Japan in 1980 and produced in Korea since 1987 by Dong-A Otsuka, a joint venture with Dong-A Pharmaceutical. Each 74g sachet dissolves in 1 litre of cold water to produce a light, gently sweet flavoured electrolyte drink with a balanced ion composition designed to help replace fluids and minerals lost through perspiration. The flavour is mild and clean rather than intensely fruity, which makes it easy to drink in volume during and after physical activity, on warm days, or when recovering from illness. The five-sachet box is a practical home supply size.
