Shiose Hinamatsuri Wasanbon Sugar Confection
A special wasanbon confection prepared in celebration of Hinamatsuri, Japan’s traditional Girls’ Day festival.
Made using rare Sanuki wasanbon sugar, produced from sugarcane cultivated only in limited areas of the Sanuki region, it continues to be crafted by hand according to time-honoured methods.
The origins of wasanbon trace back to the Edo period, when sugarcane cultivation flourished in Awa (present-day Tokushima). The sugar-making techniques developed there were later passed to neighbouring Sanuki (now Kagawa), where they evolved into a more refined and delicate sweetness — giving rise to what is now known as Sanuki wasanbon.
Through repeated kneading and pressing by skilled hands, wasanbon develops its characteristic gentle sweetness and fine, melt-in-the-mouth texture, loved across generations.
Perfect for Hinamatsuri celebrations, as well as seasonal décor or thoughtful gifts.
