A Taiwanese summer-cooling classic from Taisun, ready to eat straight from the can. Grass jelly is a glossy, almost-black jelly made from the mesona herb (Mesona chinensis), softly bouncy with a clean, subtly herbal-sweet flavour and a long history as a cooling dessert across Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia. Chill in the fridge, then spoon over crushed ice with brown sugar syrup or condensed milk, blend into bubble tea, or top with sago, taro balls and fresh fruit for a Taiwanese-style grass jelly shaved-ice bowl. Equally good simply chilled and eaten neat.
